USA Tariffs 🇺🇸

Tariff Update

August 25th 2025

Shipping to the USA is temporarily suspended. Because of the incredibly sudden implementation of the tariffs and no direction or clarity on how everything is going to roll out. The situation is incredibly confusing and unclear, so to save everyone any kind of scares, it's in our best interest to shop shipping, just for now.

We promise to have shipping turned back on soon once the rules and processing is a little more clear. Thank you for your patience!

---

From August 29th, the U.S. is removing the $800 duty free threshold on imported goodies (how wonderful!). What does that actually mean though?

  • Any parcels hitting U.S. shores after this date may have tariffs slapped on.

  • Current advice says sellers (that’s us at Quirky) will be the ones expected to pay on behalf of the customer.

  • Which means if nothing changes, we’ll need to start collecting tariff taxes at checkout. (btw, we don’t keep a cent, it all goes straight to US Customs/USPS on your behalf).

Normally, tariffs are the customer’s problem (for example, in Australia we pay 10% customs on overseas purchases over $1000 AUD). Most countries either charge you directly through your postal service or let the seller collect the fees on your behalf. USPS, however, doesn’t seem to have the systems or warehousing to handle the former… so their solution is simple: sellers pay, or parcels risk getting bounced back.

How it's been...

Since May, we’ve had zero reports from customers of USPS charging tariffs on our parcels. That’s been the case right through to today. We can’t guarantee it’ll stay that way, but that’s the reality we’re seeing across our customer base right now. Who knows how it will play out tbh!

Sugar & Spice Restock + U.S. Orders

Yep, the timing is terrible. Our Sugar & Spice restock lands right as this tariff change kicks in 🥲. To give our USA customers the best shot at avoiding extra fees (and to save us from nasty customs bills):

  • We’ll be prioritising USA orders during this restock (sorry everyone else, just this once!).

  • Our team will be pulling extra shifts all weekend to make sure as many USA parcels as possible are out the door before Tuesday morning.

If nothing shifts by then and tariffs start kicking in, we may have to temporarily switch off USA shipping from August 25th while we figure out a solution.

This wouldn't be a long term solution I promise, just a temporary one while we figure out our next steps. Our goal would be to turn it back on asap!

We know this is confusing, bloody annoying, and absolutely not our idea of fun. Please know my team and I are doing everything we can to adapt fast and keep you updated. We’re so grateful for your patience and support while we ride out this international shipping shit show.

Hopefully things ease soon. We promise to update you as best we can 💖
