USA Tariffs 🇺🇸

Tariff Update

September 12th 2025

Shipping to the U.S. is temporarily suspended, but according to our shipping service we expect to resume by September 26th at the very latest. When we do, there will be some important changes for our U.S. customers.

What’s changing?

  • U.S. customers will now be charged tariffs and applicable fees at checkout.
  • We expect this to be 30-35% across most products.
    • Example: For $50 USD worth of goods, your checkout total will be closer to $65 USD.
  • You won’t pay anything extra when your parcel enters the US. We’re covering those fees upfront on your behalf.
  • Tariffs are non-refundable once your order has shipped.

Why is this happening?

  • As of August 29th, the USA removed its $800 duty-free threshold on imports.
  • That means tariffs/customs fees are now applied to all imports, no matter the order value.
  • By law, tariffs must be paid by the importer/receiver. Since The Quirky Cup Collective is the official exporter, we’re required to collect them at checkout on behalf of the customer. Usually the receiver can pay tariffs to their local customs office but the US has decided not to allow this.
  • Tariffs/customs aren’t new, they’re a pretty standard part of international trade. Most countries have a de minimis allowance (a tax-free threshold), but the U.S. has just scrapped theirs (boooooo).

Other important info

  • The fees collected at checkout are not profit for us, they go directly to US Customs on your behalf.
  • You are not charged tariffs on your shipping fees, only the products in your order.
  • If these fees aren’t collected properly, parcels can be rejected and sent back (hence us handling it at checkout).

We know that this is confusing, bloody annoying, and absolutely not our idea of fun. We wish it were different, but this is the hand we’ve been dealt. As always, please read our Shipping Policy for the finer details. We’ll keep doing everything we can to make the process smooth, transparent, and fair for our lovely US customers.

We’re crossing all our fingers and toes that this change won’t be forever. In the meantime, thank you for sticking with us, for your understanding, and for supporting a small international business through these confusing developments. We appreciate you more than words can say 💖

TL;DR

  • U.S. shipping resumes Sept 26th (latest).
  • Tariffs up to 35% will be charged at checkout.
  • No surprise fees at delivery.
  • Tariffs are non-refundable.
