The Story Behind Serpents & Swords
Launching October 9th
Like so many of you, I grew up completely enchanted by fantasy books. There’s something so magical about being swept into another world. For me, it started with Harry Potter and has since grown into a lifelong condition of almost reading exclusively fantasy (with a side of romance). There is something to be celebrated about the magic of Fantasy books, and the Serpents & Swords collection does exactly that.
Serpents & Swords is our little love letter to those worlds. It’s a collection that celebrates the feeling of getting lost between the pages, while venturing into a slightly darker and moodier style than we’ve played with before. Our last major collection was Sugar & Spice, so this is the polar opposite 🙈.
We pulled inspiration from some of the most iconic themes and emblems of fantasy —blades, serpents, oaths, and destinies — and had a lot of fun turning them into stationery. You’ll spot nods to this in product names like the Oath Breaker Journal, The Dark Trilogy, The Gilded Heir and of course the Serpents & Swords Journal itself.
For us, this collection is about capturing that goosebump-inducing thrill of fantasy storytelling, and giving you a little slice of it to carry into your everyday life. Whether it’s scribbling your own adventures, or simply keeping track of your reading, we hope the Serpents & Swords Collection makes you feel just as transported to fantasy worlds as your favourite books do.
Lurk some of our inspiration below.
Serpents & Swords Release
For anyone that has been around Quirky for a longer amount of time, you would know how long a collection like this takes for us to prepare, and this one is no exception.
I think we started working on this one roughly a year ago now!? Initially it started out as a redesign of our 'Magic Tarot' design, but it honestly just kept manifesting from there. We were either in the thick of Sugar & Spice or it was after and I was immediately like, this collection is going to pop off and we need to do the full suite. That means creating a design for every type of product across the store - Journals, Washi, Bookmarks, Stickers, Enamel Pins, Pens, a tote bag... and it goes on and on. It's a bit crazy, but when the inspiration is there, we put our foot on the gas.
So after a whole year in the making, the date is close! At the time of writing this I think we're about 10 days out!? And I'm truly freaking out with how much I have to get done haha. Sugar & Spice was our last big collection of this calibre and I forgot how much work a collection of this magnitude requires. The photography, the listings, the copywriting, the content/videography... just pulling every element together is insane, but ends up being SO worth it.
Not to keep mentioning it, but Sugar & Spice was huge huge for us. It was a real learning curve and we think Serpents is going to be worse/better - depends on what angle you're looking at it from. The bonus is that we're launching it a little earlier this year so hopefully the stress comes off a little.
I am so proud of the work that has gone into the Serpents & Swords Collection and as always, I appreciate all the love, support and patience received from the Quirky community in the build up to these huge collections.
The Serpents & Swords Collection officially goes live on the 9th of October. If you've been here for big releases before, you would definitely know what to expect.
- Release time launches are where it's at. The collection will be going live at 10am ACST (GMT +9:30) and you can convert our local timezone of ACST to your local timezone via google.
- We can end up being really busy so order packing can take a little while (even though we have more order packers than previous years!).
- We promise to update you where we can about the status of orders. We generally do this on an updates page or on the Website Noticeboard.
Thank you so much again and we hope you're just as excited as we are ⚔️
